New Insights into Surfactant Adsorption Estimation in Carbonates under Harsh Conditions Using Surface Complexation Modeling

Summary Several laboratory experiments demonstrated that the use of sodium hydroxide could increase solution pH and reduce adsorption anionic surfactants. However, a better understanding rock-oil-brine interactions their effect on surfactant during alkaline-surfactantpolymer (ASP) flooding is needed for realistic representative estimations levels. Therefore, this study presents novel approach to capture these predict as well effluent concentrations various aqueous species using Phreeqc simulator. Currently, surface complexation models (SCMs) consider rock-brine, oil-brine, surfactant-brine reactions. In work, four new reactions with intrinsic stability constants honor oil-surfactant have been proposed first time then validated against experimental data reported in literature. addition, we analyzed parameters under harsh conditions high temperature salinity SCM. The results showed developed surfactant-based SCM capable estimating its concentration chemical floods. model was two sets ASP corefloods from literature including single-phase two-phase dynamic studies. findings highlighted are important should be captured more accurate estimation flooding.
